Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Names Daniel Hilferty the 2013 Humanitarian of the  Year

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital named Independence Blue Cross President and CEO  Daniel J. Hilferty the 2013 Humanitarian Award Recipient for his outstanding  contributions to the community and the Hospital. Hilferty will be honored at the  2013 Humanitarian Award Dinner on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Four Seasons  Hotel in Philadelphia.

"Magees Humanitarian Award is about giving back to  the community and our patients, and I can think of no one who embodies this  spirit more than Dan Hilferty," said Dr. Jack Carroll, President and CEO of  Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. "His support of Magee and other community  organizations is both inspiring and relentless."

Daniel J. Hilferty is president and chief executive  officer of Independence Blue Cross (IBC), a role he assumed in December 2010,  and is also a member of the company's board of directors. Magee is honoring  Hilferty for his many contributions to the Philadelphia community. His  leadership is Changing the Game by finding innovative solutions to enhance the  health and wellness of people in the Delaware Valley by supporting quality  health care products and services leading the way for top-notch care and  supporting programs and events that promote wellness. Hilferty and Independence  Blue Cross have been generous supporters of Magee programs, projects and events  for many years, which have improved the lives of many individuals with  disabilities, both inside and outside of the walls of Magee Rehabilitation  Hospital.

Deeply committed to our region, Hilferty lends his  time and expertise to a number of organizations. In addition to his corporate  responsibilities, he currently serves on the Board of Overseers of the  University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and on the boards of the Greater  Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs  Coalition, J.J. White Inc., and the Irish Educational Development Foundation. He  is a member of the board of trustees of the American Red Cross Southeastern  Pennsylvania Chapter, Drexel Neumann Academy, and the vice chair of the board of  trustees of Saint Joseph's University. In 2008, Saint Joseph's University's  Erivan K. Haub School of Business honored alumnus Hilferty with its Hall of Fame  award.
