26th Segal Classic Raises $750K for Magee Patients

IMG_2227Another successful Segal Classic has come and gone. 250 golfers spent a beautiful September day hitting the links for the patients at Magee. At The ACE Club, former 76er and current Temple Basketball assistant coach Aaron McKie teed off with every foursome while at The Green Valley Country Club, former Philadelphia Flyer Bernie Parent and Scott Palmer manned the 10th tee. To keep cool, the players were treated to Tito’s Vodka and Jack and Jill’s ice cream. They even walked away with some new cufflinks from Bailey Banks & Biddle.

The party inside had already begun by the time the golf ended. 270 auction items were displayed throughout the building while fabulous hors d’oeuvres were enjoyed. Bidding was fierce, but the real fun began with the live auction, led by Beasley Reece and Scott Palmer. The Friends of Jerry Segal honored Beasley Reece for his years of service before Governor Ed Rendell surprised the room with a live auction of his own.

All told, the Segal Classic raised $750,000 bringing its 26th year total to an incredible $14.25 million. The money raised will support programs throughout Magee. The housing fund, the family meal fund, and the special equipment fund are just some of the many ways the money raised will better the lives of Magee patients.

There is still time to help the Friends of Jerry Segal and the patients of Magee by bidding on the second chance auction at Segal Seconds. Many thanks to all who helped make the 26th Segal Classic a great success!
