Day Rehab Program Tours PAFA Museum

image4On Thursday, the Day Rehab program enjoyed a guided tour of Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Katie Samson, PAFA’s Assistant Director of Museum Education, also happens to be a former Magee patient and serves on Magee’s Art Therapy Committee. PAFA, located only a block away from Magee’s main hospital, is home to hundreds of pieces created by 19th and 20th century American artists. Katie led the Day Rehab group through the museum, highlighting pieces from both the museum’s permanent collection and their temporary exhibition, Traction Company.

Patients in the Day Rehab program enjoy weekly outings as a part of their Community Living Skills group, through which the group also makes regular trips to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, supported by a grant awarded to Magee’s Art Therapy program. After this enlightening tour, accessible tours at PAFA are sure to become a recurring event for the Day Rehab program!

According to its mission statement, “PAFA promotes the transformative power of art and art making.” PAFA will help Magee celebrate the impact and transformative power of art making at the Art Heals event on Wednesday, October 7, where all proceeds benefit Magee’s Art Therapy Program.image2
