Doctor’s Day 2014: Greg’s Story

Greg Snyder was a typical medical student at Jefferson Medical College, excelling in his studies and busy with clinical rotations. His worries consisted of where he would do his residency or what he would specialize in, just like any other fourth year medical student. But all of that changed in the blink of an eye on June 17, 2013 when an accident while hiking with his dog resulted in broken vertebrae and a spinal cord injury.

After two spinal fusion surgeries and a lengthy ICU stay, Greg arrived at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. During his stay at Magee, Greg worked tirelessly to regain his independence. With the help of Magee doctors and staff, Greg got stronger each day and learned how to adjust to a life as a T9 paraplegic – to become independent again.

That day changed Greg’s life, but because of the dedicated doctors and other clinical care providers, Greg is now back at Jefferson Medical College continuing his life as a medical student, and pursuing his dream to be an internal medicine or neuro-critical care physician.

“Magee doctors have been both caring at the bedside and supportive of my future orientation as an aspiring clinician. I remember Dr. Formal, in particular, taking my perspective into account while diagnosing and managing my medical problems.” – Greg Snyder

On March 30, Magee celebrates National Doctor’s Day – a day to honor and express our gratitude to the physicians whose dedication and commitment to quality health care make a difference in patients’ lives every day.

“Magee doctors and residents are well positioned to provide stellar care for patients during the most difficult periods of their lives.  By always emphasizing mental, physical, and emotional recovery as critical to the healing process, Magee physicians uphold and exemplify what it means to truly serve patients.” – Greg Snyder
