Honoring Champions in the Community

Excitement is in the air here at Magee Rehab. Why? Well, it’s not just because of the warm, sunny weather. It’s because this Friday is our annual Night of Champions fundraiser!

What is the Night of Champions, you ask? It’s an annual fundraiser that raises money for Magee’s patient and community programs, such as art therapy, wheelchair sports, horticultural therapy, our Facility Dog Program and much more. It’s an evening full of rubbing elbows with local sports celebrities, live entertainment, dinner, auctions, raffles, wheelchair sports demos and a whole lot of fun.

But the real reason it is called the Night of Champions is because we also honor champions in our community. These are people who have done great things for Magee and the people of the Philadelphia area. This year’s honorees are Lauren DeBruicker and Joel Feldman.

debruicker_lauren Lauren E. DeBruicker, Esq. is a partner at Duane Morris LLP in Philadelphia. A former Magee patient, she returned to school after her injury for undergraduate and law degrees. She is also on the Boards of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, the Inglis Foundation, and HelpHOPELive. Lauren is also a Magee peer mentor and a quad rugby player. A FIERCE quad rugby player. Check out the video below to see her in action.

His mission and perspective in life changed in 2009 when his 21 year old daughter Casey was struck and killed by a distracted driver. Since then he has worked with his wife Dianne to keep their daughters memory alive through the Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation, raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. It was through the Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation that Magee Rehab was able to establish its first Facility Dog Program.

We are thrilled to be honoring such wonderful people who have made difference for everyone at Magee, and throughout our community. We hope you will come join us this Friday from 7-10 at Penns Landing Caterers to join in the celebration. There are plenty of tickets still available!
