Join Team Magee at Legs Against Arms on April 28

Join Team Magee to support youth violence prevention in the 7th annual Legs Against Arms on April 28, 2013. Legs Against Arms 5K Run, Walk, Roll focuses on strengthening our limbs as we oppose illegal handguns in Philadelphia. This event has created an unfortunate niche—honoring loved ones lost to gun violence. The event is a program of the Philadelphia Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility and is held on the campus of St. Joseph’s University.

Magee Rehabilitation Hospital is a Silver Sponsor of this year’s event, led by Joe Davis of our Think First program. Learn more about Joe’s involvement with the event.

In its 7th year, Legs Against Arms attracts runners, walkers, wheelchair rollers, children and adults who are committed to changing the social norm that celebrates violence by focusing on violence prevention, honoring loved ones lost to gun violence and modeling healthy life choices. The City of Philadelphia has incorporated this important event as one of the city sponsored events to stem the epidemic of violence in Philadelphia.

Last year, PSR introduced the 5K competitive and 5K fun run/walk divisions. This year, PSR is happy to introduce the 1K Peace Parade Division. In addition, following the race events, come to Hagan Arena for a new celebration, a Celebration of PEACE (Peaceful Endings through Authorities—including parents, police, law and justice professionals, lawyers, judges, business leaders, medical professionals and more—Children and Educators). As Part of the Celebration of PEACE, there will be table exhibits highlighting anti-violence programs and materials, a demonstration of the youth court approach to school and community problems that PSR is promoting, and a town hall meeting to discuss the issue of violence broadly and gun violence specifically.

Music and poetry will add to the celebration.  Come join us for an event that will be both fun and thought provoking.  Run, walk, reflect, share and learn—all that and more at the 2013 Legs Against Arms event!
