PT Spotlight: Miko Quisumbing

October is National Physical Therapy Month! Physical therapists are an integral part of Team Magee, and in honor of this month, we’ll be introducing you to a member of our talented crew each week in October.Today’s spotlight is on Miko Quisumbing, PT, DPT, a physical therapist making a difference in the lives of the patients and families on the 3rd floor here at Magee.

Tell us a little bit more about your background.

I graduated from Drexel University, right across the street from Magee – I didn’t get very far from my daily commute! I celebrated my one year anniversary at Magee this past August,

Why did you decide to become a physical therapist?

I became a PT because I love working with people, working with my hands, and wanted to wake up every day with the chance to make a difference. Every day I work with the people here I find even more reasons.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I’m fortunate enough to be part of a really great team here at Magee. Every person here has a role, and the most rewarding part is being a trusted member of that team.

Tell us about an experience that solidified for you that you made the right career choice.

It was such an amazing experience the first time a patient I had treated as a primary PT came and visited me on the 3rd floor. He went home with a wheelchair, but came and visited me using a walker. The next visit he came with a cane, and then after without any type of assistive device. The patient attributed Magee with giving him the foundation and spark to go after his goals. It’s humbling to know we can have such a profound impact in our day to day interactions.

What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Anything involving the outdoors! You can find me running, biking, and swimming (only once in a triathlon this summer!) around the Schuylkill River Trail from Philly to Valley Forge. Come join me!
