Rec Therapy Month: Josh’s Story

In honor of Recreational Therapy Month, we will be highlighting some of our amazing patients throughout the month of February. Today’s spotlight is on Josh Jones. Josh is 36 years old and was injured in July 2015. He has a C6 incomplete SCI. About Rec Therapy, Josh says:

Josh at “Life Rolls On” in Wildwood, NJ

Recreational Therapy has influenced my recovery by giving me the confidence to get back to the things I enjoy. I have always been an adventurous person, but after my injury, I questioned my ability to do outdoor activities. My inpatient TR introduced me to Life Rolls On, an adaptive surf clinic. I was back in the water as of June 2016, and loved every second of it.

As I transitioned to the Day Rehab Program, I was encouraged by the TR to join the SCI Young Adult Group. Since then, the group has helped me overcome my insecurities and driven me to be successful. I have been given the opportunity to help others overcome physical barriers by demonstrating how to travel on a plane with a disability in a video with Magee.

My favorite memory of Recreational Therapy is playing ping-pong in the Day Rehab Program.
