Road To Rio: The Journey Begins!

Hey, Team USA fans! I’m sure everyone is sad that the Olympics are coming to a close this weekend. Team USA has been incredible down in Rio (especially in the pool!) but not to worry.  The Paralympic Games start on September 7, so the action will continue, and this time the athletes are even more inspiring.

My journey to Rio begins next Friday, August 26, when I head to Houston, TX for a training camp and Team Processing (basically, where we get all the awesome gear and clothes!). On September 2, the team flies down to Rio and moves into the Village.  The Opening Ceremony is September 7, and I’ll be there! My first race isn’t until Monday, September 12, so I will have plenty of time to recover after walking in the ceremony.

If you want to follow along, my schedule for the Games is:

  • Monday, September 12: S9 100m freestyle
  • Tuesday, September 13: S9 50m freestyle
  • Thursday, September 15: (Tentative member of) 4x100m 34 point Freestyle Relay
  • Friday, September 16: (Tentative member of) 4x100m 34 point Medley Relay
  • Sunday, September 18: Closing Ceremony

NBC will be showing 66 hours of coverage of the Paralympic Games, so be sure to tune in to catch the action! The TV schedule hasn’t been released yet, but the believe@Magee blog will share the schedule as soon as it’s available. You can also follow along on social media:

I am endlessly grateful for all of the support from my Magee family along this journey. GO USA!!
