Staying Connected During the Papal Visit

The Papal Visit this weekend is a monumental event for the City of Philadelphia, and we want assure our patients and their families that all will be well-cared for during the event, Thursday through Sunday, September 24-27, 2015, as they are every day.  For several months, committees of Magee staff have been thoughtfully planning to make this event as safe and enjoyable as possible for our patients, families, and team members. Magee staff will reside in the building throughout the event to assure adequate staffing at all times.

During the Papal Visit, visiting hours will be modified beginning Thursday, September 24 through Sunday, September 27:

  • Immediate Family       8 AM – 6 PM
  • General Visitors          12 PM— 6 PM

Communication by Phone, Skype, and FaceTime

Because we anticipate getting to Magee may be time consuming for visitors, we are using technology to make other means of communication available. The in-room phone system service should remain uninterrupted, but cell service may be disrupted periodically. Magee is pleased to make Skype and FaceTime available for communication and will assist patients in use. For individuals who are unable to communicate independently, Magee staff will provide assistance or place a daily call to their designated contact Friday through Sunday. To arrange a Skype call with your loved one, please contact the Concierge Department at 215-587-3180 or concierge@mageerehab.org.

Transportation and Parking

During the days of the Papal Visit, Magee will provide additional security for the hospital building. Part of that security is to have an advance list of anyone who may visit on Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27. Case Managers have been working with patients and families to create their lists.

Magee is located in the no-vehicle zone where driving will not be permitted. Exact times may change, based on updates from the City of Philadelphia, and parking for non-residents is currently very limited in the area. As you know, Magee is not able to provide overnight accommodations for non-patients.

There will be no parking in Magee’s Cherry Street lot or garage after 5 PM on Thursday, September 24 through the end of the event. It is our understanding that SEPTA services and stops will be limited. Please check www.septa.org for current schedules, fare information, and availability.

Our overriding goal at Magee is to ensure high quality and safe care is provided for our patients, and we look forward to coming together to meet this goal during this historic event.
