Join Team Magee @ Strides for Stroke

Today is the final day of Stroke Awareness Month – but it’s definitely not the final day to promote stroke awareness in your community! If you live in the Philadelphia area, we encourage you to join us on Sunday, June 9 for the 19th Annual Dr. Howard Mazer Memorial Strides for Stroke 5K Race and Walk. All funds raised benefit the Delaware Valley Stroke Council, whose vital mission is to raise awareness, advocate for and support stroke survivors and their caretakers.

Magee staff and patients have participated in this walk since its inception in memory of Dr. Howard Mazer, who was a former Magee patient.  But Dr. Mazer is not Magee’s only connection to the Stroke Council. Dr. Guy Fried, Magee’s Chief Medical Officer, serves as the Council’s Board President, and Dr. Barbara Browne is a member of the Council’s Medical Advisory Board.  Team Magee is always one of the largest, filled with staff, former patients, family and friends. Our Stroke Peer Mentors and Stroke Club members also volunteer throughout the event.

We still have plenty of room on Team Magee! Check out the Team Magee page to join – but make sure you’re signed up by June 4! Unable to make it, but still want to donate? Just click on the name of a runner and add your donation.

As we wrap up Stroke Awareness Month, remember that being vigilant about stroke isn’t just something for one month out of the year. Stroke is the #1 cause of disability in America – and the #3 cause of death. Know your risks and talk to your doctor about ways you can prevent stroke. You’ll be glad you did!
