Barbara's Story

Living with MS and arthritis, Barbara came to Magee for Rehab.

Barbara, who is living with multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, came to Magee for general rehabilitation from complications caused by a surgery.

After experiencing a series of medical setbacks, she had to give up cooking, crocheting, sewing and some of the other activities she used to love. When Magee’s Art Therapist asked Barbara if she would be interested in art therapy, she said she wasn’t an artist, but would give it a try. Barbara went from being apprehensive about visual art to recruiting other patients to join art therapy. “Art therapy served as a catalyst to me,” she said. “It supported my other therapies, and provided a relaxing environment.” She continues to paint and participate in art therapy at the Riverfront Health and Wellness Center.
