Here at Magee, we are very lucky to be supported by the local community — and our patients are, too! Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting students from The Council Rock South High School Swim Team. On their mission of compassion and service, the students delivered handmade blankets to patients on Magee’s 5th floor in the name of one of their own – Lauren Shevchek. Lauren is the former Council Rock South swim team captain and is also a former Magee 5th floor spinal cord injury patient.
“Lauren always sang the national anthem at every swim meet, showed exceptional leadership skills and always encouraged the team in and out of the pool, said Daphne Melekos, Council Rock South Swim mom. “So, giving back in her honor was the team’s priority.”
Although Council Rock South High School Swim Team’s primary mission was to donate warm blankets to Magee’s patients, they also brightened the days of several patients and their families one smile at a time. Faye Melekos, Mattie Melekos, Rachael Magee, Theresa Ridings, Emily Eastburn, Harry Hall and Michael Rituper, Daphne Melekos, Kate Magee and several other members of their team worked tirelessly over their winter break to make the gift blankets that brought joy to our patients.
A big thank you to the Council Rock South Swim Team! If you are interested in volunteering your time, please visit our volunteer page on our website.
