Surf’s Up for Team Magee at “Life Rolls On” in Wildwood Crest, NJ

On Sunday, June 19, Team Magee staff volunteered at a one-of-a-kind event: Life Rolls On: They Will Surf Again in Wildwood Crest, NJ. Till Manthey (nursing), Heather Eastty (PT), Caroline Champi (PT), Gina Cooke (OT), Katie Falzone (OT), Mandi Parker (OT), Kristen Hartman (TR), and David Marks (therapy/ LT aide) all pitched in at this day of adaptive surfing.

The real stars of the show, though, were our surfers! Magee’s adapted surfers represented all genders, ages, and abilities, but they all shared the same drive, inspiration, and passion to show the infinite possibility beyond paralysis. The former patients surfing were: Jeff Harris, Mark Berkenstock, Josh Jones, Derrick Redcay, Andre Gibson, Dawn Robinson, Will Lawler and John Couts. Also with us were Matthew McCarrol and Ather Sharif.

This annual event connects not only the volunteers and the adapted surfers, but family, friends, and the community who may be unaware of adapted sports/recreation opportunities. Don’t forget to sign up for next year’s event, and participate in this life changing opportunity!
