Wellness Triumph of the Month: Janet’s Story

Each month, the Health & Wellness Center at Magee Riverfront honors one of its clients as the “Wellness Triumph of the Month.” Today, meet Janet.

Janet Garrett was an elementary school teacher for 26 years. In the fall of 2016, she suffered a stroke while at home. Once she was transferred to Magee, Janet says she loved the staff so much that “they couldn’t get rid of me.” Upon her discharge from the inpatient program, Janet came to Magee Riverfront for outpatient therapy and to utilize the Wellness Center. In Wellness, Janet likes to use the majority of the equipment, especially the overhead track where she can safely practice walking with a cane instead of a walker. Janet likes to participate in Art Therapy, where she paints her three dogs Yolo, Gucci, and Teddy. There are a host of people Janet would like to thank for encouraging and helping her, but especially Debby, Megan, Mia, Ashley, her therapist at the main hospital, and her daughter, Jillian.
