Magee Hosts Sullivan Classic Wheelchair Basketball Tournament

Earlier this month, the Magee Sixers hosted the Dan Sullivan Classic at the RiverWinds Community Center in West Deptford, NJ. Eight teams came from all over the east coast to compete: the Nassau Kings, Delaware Destroyers, MedStar NRH Punishers, Connecticut Spokebenders, MAPVA Rimriders, WC Brooklyn Nets, Jr. Nets, and of course the host team, Magee Sixers.

On Saturday each team played three games to try to win the top spot in their pool, and be that much closer to taking first place. About 8 hours and a total of 12 games played, both the Nassau Kings and the Delaware Destroyers came out undefeated and winning first in their pool. Unfortunately, Magee was third in their pool with 1 win and 2 losses.

Sunday was the day to determine where each team placed, and brought a complete turnaround for Magee. They won their first game against the Brooklyn Nets with a score of 40-27, which led them to play against the Connecticut Spokebenders for fifth and sixth place. After an extremely close game, Magee won with a score of 46-42. As for the title match, congrats to the MedStar NRH Punishers who won with a final score of 65-51.

Below are the full standings:

  1. MedStar NRH Punishers
  2. MAPVA Rimriders
  3. Nassau Kings
  4. Delaware Destroyers
  5. Magee Sixers
  6. Connecticut Spokebenders
