Magee Rehabilitation offers one of the nation's leading rehabilitation programs for people with spinal cord injuries (SCI). With more than 4,000 SCI patients in its follow-up system, Magee has the clinical experience and the unique peer resources that no other Greater Philadelphia rehabilitation program can offer.

Since 1978, Magee has partnered with Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to form The Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley. The center provides for the multidisciplinary coordination of emergency and acute medical/surgical care, rehabilitation beginning at the onset of acute care, vocational-evaluation and training, and lifetime follow-up care for persons with spinal cord injury.

Mageeโ€™s Spinal Cord Injury Program provides inpatient and/or outpatient care to any individual 14 years of age or older, who presents with a clinical diagnosis of spinal cord injury/dysfunction, ranging from C1 through Cauda Equina levels, and all categories of severity (AIS A โ€“ E), including ventilator dependent. Diagnostic categories that might fall within this realm include, but are not limited to: traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injury, Guillian Barre Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, spinal cord tumors, cancer, inflammatory conditions, any disorder effecting the central nervous system in the spinal cord, etc..

Magee's SCI services include an expert clinical inpatient program; state-of-the-art assistive and therapeutic technology; unique outpatient therapy programs; and community reintegration services. Lifetime follow-up care is coordinated through Magee to address the unique health and community reintegration concerns of people with SCI.

Magee's SCI inpatients can begin taking part in restorative programs immediately following their admission and initial evaluations. Therapies are offered seven days per week, and physician and nursing services are available 24 hours a day. Patients will be at Magee for varying periods of time, based on their goals and progress. Each member of the treatment team works with the patient and caregivers for a return to the community that is as safe and speedy as possible. Most inpatient stays are complemented by continuing care services at home or in outpatient settings.

The benefits of rehabilitation do not stop after a patient has successfully demonstrated improved function and has returned home. People with SCI are likely to have some form of long-term disability and unique healthcare needs through the remainder of their lives. All resources and services of Magee Rehabilitation are available through the Lifetime Follow-Up System of Care.

Magee's Lifetime Follow-Up System of Care provides patients and families with continued access to a rehabilitation physician and a team of expert rehabilitation professionals. This team provides a variety of services to help patients maintain or regain their level of physical function and good health. Case management is offered to coordinate each patient's lifetime SCI care needs. Magee treats patients who are at least 14 years old, and has a specialized adolescent coordinator that works with young people.

In addition to the Lifetime Follow-Up System of Care, Magee also offers an SCI Medical Home. This specialized Medical Home is not a physical place, but rather, a bundle of services and a support system for people with new spinal cord injuries and their caregivers. It was created to make the early transition from the rehabilitation hospital to home and community easier, safer, and less stressful. Medical Home members, as part of the Lifetime Follow-Up System of Care, have the support of a full, dedicated healthcare team that provides top-rated care and services, with the goal of maximizing health, happiness, and wellness.
